From the philosophical to the funny, the serious to the ridiculous, here is a list of things that we learned while traveling around the world. And from what we learned from our overseas flights, we’ve put together a list of tips for travelers.
Tips and tricks learned while traveling
1. Carry fewer things
Number 1 Travel Tips. You should try to travel only with carry-on luggage. Do you really need six pairs of shoes and an iron? If you bring less, you will travel cheaper (no luggage charge), faster (no waiting to get your bags) and more easily (a bag means less to carry around during your trip by plane).
2. Forget your travel guide
Another tip trip. Rather than packing your Routard or Lonely Planet, photocopy the pages you need and recycle them when you no longer need them. This allows you to save space and weight.
3. Avoid the security queue where there are children
Take one where there are only adults. It goes much faster.
4. Never put flip flops (on an airplane)
In the unlikely event of an emergency, it is better to wear solid shoes that will protect you from heat and sharp objects.
5. Shake yourself (a little)
If
you are afraid of turbulence in flight, try to move your body a little
when you arrive in an area where it shakes. Nobody will notice because
everyone moves because of the movements of the plane. It may sound a
little crazy, but your movement will counteract that of the plane and
you will feel less turbulence. If you are looking for travel tips, ask
us!
6. If possible, choose your place.
If you can
choose your seat, avoid sitting next to babies and groups of friends
chatting, your trip by plane will be more peaceful. That’s good
traveling too.
7. Learn a few words
Memorize a few words of the local language, and have the courage to use them! It’s amazing how a few words can do for a lot of people. People tend to prefer those who make the effort to communicate with them in their own language.
8. Close your mouth
Small tip travels for your health. If you are in a country where the water is not healthy, keep your mouth shut in the shower.
9. Choose the right hotel
Today,
we compare, we read the opinions. To find a good hotel, do not forget
to take a ride on Skyscanner, find better at the best price, it’s worth
it, a good tip for finding cheap trips.
10. Drop your friends
Traveling
alone may seem intimidating at first, but it gives you a real chance to
dive into your journey. On a solo trip, I made friends for life,
learned a new language, and had amazing experiences.
11. Always travel with a hoodie
Even
though they have become the uniform of young teens, hoodies remain
excellent clothes for traveling. Put on your hood and isolate yourself
from the noise and light to sleep on a flight/ seat/airport bus.
12. Choose the Asian-vegetarian menu
You
are served first, you avoid fatty and heavy dishes (which helps with
jet lag problems, apparently) and the quality is better.
13. Take earplugs
If
the silence is golden, then the earplugs are worth their weight in
platinum during your trip by plane. Being able to sleep in a noisy plane
or hotel is a significant advantage, not to be underestimated if you
want to travel well.
14. Pre-book an airport lounge
always
looking for travel tips? If you are traveling by long haul, book an
airport lounge in advance. There is a tax to pay in advance, but this
allows you to enjoy a quiet environment with free drinks, things to eat,
magazines, newspapers, WIFI, etc. When you leave, take a few bottles of
water. It’s an affordable and enjoyable way to start your journey.
15. Take a device with an Internet connection
If
you take a long trip, take a device that connects to wifi, such as a
smartphone or tablet. Before, I did not do it because I was afraid to
take an expensive object on a trip, but it was even more expensive, if
not impossible, to use the internet on site. There is free wifi all over
the world, and you will quickly realize that you often need to go to
your bank account or check your reservation, but also find tips for
traveling cheap.
16. Take a jacket in rab
When
traveling on an airplane (especially on long-haul flights), always
consider an extra jacket because the blankets you are given are not very
thick and it can be cold on the plane. Traveler’s tip for your comfort!
17. Take a sarong
The
pareos are lightweight and multifunctional: to lie on the beach, to
cover you when it’s cold, to turn into towel, curtain, skirt, dress, and
even bandage relief.
18. Take a tablet for the kids
When
traveling on a plane with young children, bring a laptop or tablet.
Cartoons and other movies allow you to spend time during the flight and
allow parents to take a break too.
19. Invest in a noise-canceling headset
For
the perfect long-haul journey, buy a good noise-canceling helmet. The
price may be high, but they are worth it to no longer hear the screaming
baby, the snoring neighbor or teens who chatter.
20. Kindle is made to travel
I
never travel without my Kindle. No need to lug several books hoping to
exchange with other travelers. It may have been a “charming” way of
traveling in the past, but not when you find books … in German!
21. Take a look behind you
Whenever
you go anywhere from a chair at the airport to a coffee shop or bar,
always go back and make sure you have not forgotten anything. This trip
tip might allow you to avoid moments of panic.
22. Roll up your clothes
Once
we begin to roll, we wonder why we broke our heads to bend. The travel
tips, it is also the optimization of his luggage to pay less.
23. Use your body language
When
there is a language barrier, screaming in one’s mother tongue does not
help much. So use your body. It is the most international language in
the world. And do not forget to punctuate with a smile.
24. Bring a banana AND a wallet
And
this for a double reason: if you steal your banana, you can quietly
take out your wallet and continue your vacation without much hassle. If
you make friends on the spot and want to pay a tour, use your wallet
instead because it could be insulting to see you rummage through your
banana.
25. Do not change your money at the hotel
Traveler’s
Council: look for the best rate instead. Find a credit/debit card that
does not tax you for overseas purchases, and do not bother with
traveler’s checks.
26. Do not take (too much) cash
I
do not think I have been a country for the last ten years that does not
have a distributor. So you do not really need to bring more than two
days of money.
27. Take a pack of cards
Travel advice
number 27! A card game is not only useful for passing the time when
there are delays, but it is also a good way to start an intercultural
dialogue.
28. Take a guide
When visiting a cultural
monument, always take a local guide. It will make you discover many more
things than if you go it alone or read your travel guide.
29. Be flexible
The
more flexible your travel arrangements are, the more money you’ll save
(you’ll be able to travel at cheaper times and get better rates). Use
Skyscanner’s handy monthly charts to find the cheapest flights for a
given month, the price of your plane trip will be affected.
30. Synchronize your sleep
To avoid discomfort due to jet lag, try to synchronize your sleep pattern with the new time zone immediately. This is one of the essential travel tips for the long haul.
31. Take Travel Insurance
Advice
to travelers essential to not turn the dream into a nightmare. Always
take out travel insurance (and do not just rely on your credit card
insurance). It sounds obvious but many people do not do it and end up
losing a lot of money when things go wrong.
32. Be faithful
If you want to be upgraded, take the airline’s loyalty card. Even if you are at the lowest level, you will be rewarded first.
33. The Tiger Balm is a gift from the gods
Tip
unstoppable trip! This Singaporean balm not only works wonders on sore
muscles but also works as a repellent for insects. A perfect two-in-one
for traveling.
34. Understand that you can be understood
The
fact that this gentleman is white does not necessarily mean that he
speaks French. And the fact that this lady is Asian does not necessarily
mean that she does not speak French! Be wary when meditating in a
language that may be understood around you. You never know who
understands what.
35. Admit that we are all the same
It
is while traveling that you realize that societies are as fragmented
and diverse in their views as you are. Among the indispensable travel
tips, we can only mention openness.
36. Avoid the classics
If you really want to think outside the box, buy the Backpacker and avoid all the places listed there.
37. Do not plan anything
It’s
always a little tempting to plan every step of your journey in detail,
but free days are often those that leave the most enduring and cherished
memories.
38. Enjoy life
Be open-minded and enjoy life. Traveling can be frustrating, but you will think about it and remember it all your life.
39. Prefer handmade trips
Always
looking for advice to travelers? If you really want to discover a new
country and a culture, rent a car and plan everything yourself. The
freedom to do what you want when you want it creates the best trips.
40. Slow down
Council
traveler of a great sage! Traveling is like life: it’s the journey
that’s fun. Do not just get to your destination as quickly as possible.
Travel more slowly and you will discover more.
41. Take the difficult route
The
more difficult the journey, the more rewarding it is. Driving to
Kazakhstan is a crazy experience. Getting there by plane is just a
“trip”.
42. Staying seated is tiring
Traveling by
plane is tiring, even if you are sitting in a comfortable seat all the
time. Among the advice to travelers to follow, we can only encourage you
to get up regularly during the flight.
43. Go there
If
you have a strong desire to “go on a trip”, even if it’s just to see a
particular place, start saving and go for it! Do not be too long. Do not
post. Do it, or you will regret when you are too old / too busy / too
busy to travel.
44. Do not be paranoid
Be wise and
careful, but try not to be paranoid. I once traveled with a guy who
could not relax because he was convinced everyone was there to steal his
money or ripped him off. One day, he lost his car keys and started
accusing the family who had welcomed us for a night in the desert. He
eventually found the keys at the bottom of his sleeping bag. Travel tip:
keep your things tidy!
45. Hide your guide
You are in
London, you are looking for your route and everyone is ignoring you:
hide your travel guide and your map. You are in Glasgow and everyone is
giving you advice all the time: hide your travel guide and map.
46. There is always Toblerone
You
have finished your vacation but you forgot to buy gifts? No problem!
It’s a mathematical certainty, Swiss mountain-shaped chocolate will
always be available in duty-free shops around the world.
47. Do not get upset
Here
is another of our tips for travelers. No need to spend your energy on
getting upset with travelers who do not stay within one meter of the
luggage mat, so everyone can see the luggage arrive.
48. The steak tartare, it’s not a steak with tartar sauce
Yes, sometimes we learn things while traveling …
49. Cut out your toothbrush
To
save space and weight, saw your toothbrush in half. The additional 3
cm3 can be used to carry a sheet of paper in addition (see tip 2).
50. Pretend to sleep
Board
traveler to be discreet. If you flatter during your flight, pretend to
sleep or insult yourself against people who respect nothing!
