OnePlus leads Samsung and becomes Indian market leader
For the first time in history, OnePlus managed to establish itself as the leader in high-end telephony in the Indian market, during the second quarter of 2018. Samsung is thus relegated to second place.
OnePlus takes off, Samsung panics
According to a recent analysis of the Indian smartphone market, conducted by Counterpoint Research, this second quarter of 2018 would mark a turning point for the OnePlus brand.
Indeed, for the first time in its history, OnePlus has managed to become a leader in the high-end telephony segment in India, capturing no less than 40% of the market share, and thereby exceeding the giant Korean, Samsung, relegated for the occasion to second place, with "only" 34% of market share.
Apple, meanwhile, would record its lowest figures in this part of the world, with less than 14% market share.
The reason for this change? A OnePlus 6 having met with great success in the country, while sales of the Galaxy 9, compared to the Galaxy 8, would have fallen by almost 25%.
2018, the year of OnePlus?
The OnePlus 6 has been and still is, a huge commercial success. Recently, OnePlus said it sold 1 million units worldwide, in just 22 days.
OnePlus is also the fastest growing brand in the high-end mobile segment, with an increase of no less than 446% in the second quarter of this year.
In India, OnePlus, Samsung and Apple dominate the market and alone account for nearly 90% of the mobiles sold in the country.
